Liverpool welcome back Philippe Coutinho to face Southampton in Capital One Cup

Liverpool are expected to start goalkeeper Adam Bogdan against Southampton in the Capital One Cup, while Philippe Coutinho could return to the squad.

Bogdan has been preferred to regular number one Simon Mignolet throughout this competition and Coutinho (hamstring) was due to be assessed after training on Tuesday having missed the previous two contests.

Lucas Leiva is back from suspension for the clash with Saints, while Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson (both foot) should be in the squad again after making their returns from long-term lay-offs as substitutes in the win over Swansea.

Steven Caulker is set to start for Southampton in the quarter-final at home to Liverpool because of an injury to captain Jose Fonte.

The on-loan central defender impressed manager Ronald Koeman after coming on against Manchester City at the weekend as a substitute for Fonte, who suffered a cut on his knee that required stitches.

Beyond Fonte are long-term absentees Fraser Forster and Florin Gardos as well as Jay Rodriguez, who will miss the coming seven to eight weeks following ankle surgery.

Provisional Liverpool squad: Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Can, Allen, Milner, Lucas, Firmino, Benteke, Lallana, Bogdan, Toure, Randall, Brannagan, Rossiter, Ibe, Origi, Teixeira, Coutinho.

Provisional Southampton squad: Soares, Bertrand, Caulker, Clasie, K Davis, S Davis, Gazzaniga, Juanmi, Long, Mane, Martina, Pelle, Ramirez, Stekelenburg, Tadic, Van Dijk, Romeu, Wanyama, Yoshida.
