Football fans either love it or hate it but there are always some surprises on Transfer Deadline Day.

This year's edition is likely to be busy with Premier League clubs working on a deadline of 11pm.

18:30 - Manchester United complete Alex Telles signing

Manchester United have announced the signing of Brazil defender Alex Telles from Porto on a four-year contract.

It is understood a fee of £13.5million, plus £1.8million in potential add-ons, had been agreed with the Portuguese club over the weekend for the left-back, whose deal includes the option to extend for a further year.

He said on the club website: “To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour.

“You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.”

18:00 - Matteo Guendouzi leaves Arsenal on loan

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan deal.

The France Under-21s international has made 82 appearances since joining the Gunners from Lorient two years ago but he has found himself surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta this season.

Guendouzi has not has not been selected in a matchday squad since a post-game incident in June’s defeat at Brighton led to further-reaching questions about his mentality.

Arsenal said in a statement: “Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Matteo well for the season.”

15:30 - Bayern Munich sign Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on loan from PSG

Bayern Munich have signed former Stoke forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Paris St-Germain on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old was born in Hamburg and played for his hometown club , Nuremburg, Mainz and Schalke before his move to the Potters in 2017, where he played 32 matches and scored five goals in one season before his transfer to PSG.

Choupo-Moting came on as a substitute for the final 10 minutes of August’s Champions League final defeat to Bayern, whom he has joined on a free transfer.

15:00 - Ruben Vinagre joins Olympiacos

The 21-year-old leaves after left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri joined, initially on loan, from Angers on Sunday.

Vinagre joined Wolves from Ligue 1 side Monaco three years ago, initially on loan before the move was made permanent in 2018.

He has made 70 appearances, scoring three times, and his move to Greece could eventually be worth up to £22million.

14:30 - Grujic move to Werder Bremen off

Grujic’s potential move to Werder Bremen is off as despite the £9.9million sale of former Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen to Ajax the Bundesliga side do not have the finances.

The PA news agency understands Grujic had spoken to coach Florian Kohfeldt about the prospect of a move but Bremen’s board could not sanction the transfer, even on flexible payment terms.

Grujic will now remain at Liverpool, who will look to sell the midfielder in January.

13:00- Southampton pursue Theo Walcott

Southampton have been in contact with Everton about re-signing Theo Walcott, after the Merseyside club landed Ben Godfrey from Norwich.

With new signing James Rodriguez having made the wide-right spot his own thanks to an excellent start to his Goodison Park career, Walcott’s first-team chances look like being limited.

The 31-year-old is in the final year of his contract, and while a return to Saints is thought to be his preferred choice, he has also been linked with Crystal Palace, West Ham, Fulham and Newcastle.

12:30 - Fulham hoping to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan

Fulham are pushing to sign Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan.

Manager Scott Parker still wants to bolster his defence ahead of the transfer deadline, but is also keen to add England star Loftus-Cheek to the Craven Cottage ranks.

Loftus-Cheek has only featured once for Chelsea this term, in the 3-1 Premier League win at Brighton on the season’s opening weekend.

The 24-year-old has spent the last 16 months battling a nasty torn Achilles tendon injury.

12:00 Brendan Rodgers expects Demarai Gray to stay at Leicester

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers expects Demarai Gray to remain at the club.

The 24-year-old’s future has been a subject of debate in recent weeks. Gray is in the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium and has yet to be included in a matchday squad for a Premier League game.

Leeds were linked with a move for the winger, but any potential deal there looks to be off with the Yorkshire club reportedly set to sign Raphinha from Rennes.

10:50 - Celtic linked to deadline day loan move for AC Milan full-back Diego Laxalt

Celtic and Rangers are both reported to be closing in on transfers ahead of Monday night’s deadline.

The Hoops have been linked with AC Milan left-back Diego Laxalt, while Rangers appear to have resurrected a move for Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu.

Reports in Italy claim Uruguay international Laxalt is on the verge of a loan move from Milan, who are one of Celtic’s Europa League group stage opponents.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon said on Sunday they were “working on one or two things”.

Rangers have been linked with Zungu all summer and reports in his native South Africa claim they are close to agreeing a fee with his French club.

Ibrox chiefs are not expecting any major departures, meaning Lille target Alfredo Morelos will be staying put in Glasgow unless an 11th-hour bid materialises from France.

10:25 - Ryan Sessegnon joins Hoffenheim on loan

Tottenham youngster Ryan Sessegnon has joined Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old has struggled to make an impact since joining Spurs for £25million last summer and has been sent out to get some game time.

Sessegnon has yet to feature for Jose Mourinho’s side this season, despite a packed fixture list.

10:15 - Everton sign Norwich defender Ben Godfrey on five-year deal

Everton have signed Ben Godfrey from Norwich on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee in the first major move of transfer deadline day.

The Canaries announced they had received a club-record fee for the 22-year-old, whose new deal ties him to Everton until the end of June 2025.
