Leicester fans Kasabian to perform at King Power Stadium in May

Indie rockers Kasabian have announced they will perform at Leicester City's King Power Stadium as the team come within touching distance of title glory.

The lifelong Foxes' fans said it was the "perfect time" to stage the concert, which will take place on May 28, in what they hope will be a celebratory atmosphere.

Leicester are one win away from pulling off the biggest upset in Premier League history by being crowned champions after opening the season as 5,000-to-one underdogs at a number of bookmakers.

The band, who are best known for hits such as Shoot The Runner and Club Foot, had originally planned to play at the ground next year, but decided to move the event forward given the team's run of form.

Guitarist Serge Pizzorno, who will attend this weekend's fixture against Manchester United with singer Tom Meighan, told the Press Association: "It seems like the perfect time to be playing, you just have to walk around the streets and there's some energy going on - it's almost like it needed a party.

"It was a monumental show a couple of years ago at Victoria Park and we had booked to do the King Power next year, but the way things have gone and the atmosphere in the city over the last couple of days, we've managed to make it happen and moved it forward a year."

Despite there still being time for another team to seize the league crown, Mr Pizzorno is confident the gig will still be enjoyable if Leicester fall at the final hurdle.

"The way we roll round these parts is if it goes good then you have a party, if it goes bad, you have an even bigger party," he said.

"It will add to the atmosphere on the night if the fairy tale happens, but whatever happens it is going to be a night to remember.

"It doesn't matter what team you're into - everyone's invited to share in this moment."

Mr Meighan added: "We've supported Leicester since we were kids and it's just amazing that we're here now after supporting them through all the bad times and good times - it's great."
