Lawwell: No switch for Old Firm

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell admits the Old Firm have no chance of playing in the Barclays Premiership.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell admits the Old Firm have no chance of playing in the Barclays Premiership.

Both Celtic and Rangers have expressed an interest in joining English football‘s top league.

A new television contract to run from 2007 is being negotiated by clubs in England and Lawwell concedes swapping the Bank of Scotland Premier League for the Premiership is nothing more than a pipe dream for the Scottish giants.

He said: “I think that TV deal will be sorted out without Celtic and Rangers.

“With the way the vote is structured in the English Premiership, with a 16-4 vote required, then there is no chance of the Old Firm getting in.

“There are no concrete signs of any change.”
