Kasper Schmeichel could make Leicester return against Manchester City

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel could make a surprise return against former club Manchester City after a fractured hand.

Boss Claudio Ranieri is prepared to let the Denmark international make his own call on his fitness after being sidelined for over a month.

The Denmark international has been out for over a month with a fractured hand but could make his comeback imminently.

Ranieri said: "He is getting better and maybe he is ready for the Bournemouth match. I think Saturday may be too soon but let me speak with him tomorrow morning. For me the possibility is no but Kasper is a fighter.

"He didn't feel anything (when he first suffered the injury) and the surgeon is happy and everything is OK."

The 30-year-old suffered the injury in Leicester's 0-0 Champions League draw in Copenhagen last month and has missed the last six games - with deputies Ron-Robert Zieler and Ben Hamer conceding 14 goals between them.

Hamer shipped five as the Foxes lost 5-0 in their final Champions League Group G game in Porto on Wednesday and Leicester are just two points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Andy King are all expected to return against Manchester City after being left at home for the loss in Portugal.

Skipper Wes Morgan is likely to be the only survivor from the Estadio do Dragao while Robert Huth should start after being rested in midweek due to a minor back injury. Danny Drinkwater serves the final game of his three-match ban.

Defeat on Wednesday was the heaviest for an English side in the Champions League but Ranieri is remaining calm.

He added: "Of course, I was waiting for a period like this. If you think what happened last season at Chelsea and they are a little better than us, they were down - why can't it happen to Leicester?

"Now it's important to react, together, and to play for the team."

Provisional squad: Schmeichel, Zieler, Hamer, Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Wasilewski, Hernandez, Chilwell, Fuchs, King, James, Mendy, Amartey, Albrighton, Gray, Schlupp, Barnes, Mahrez, Vardy, Ulloa, Okazaki, Slimani.
