Uefa have confirmed that they have received more than 3.5m ticket requests for matches at the Euro 2016 finals.

Ticket applications to follow national teams at the tournament closed today, as fans went in search of the 800,000 tickets available to the 24 countries that have qualified for the finals.

In an article on the Uefa website the governing body for European soccer confirmed that supporters from the Republic of Ireland were in the top five nations when it came to ticket requests. The other countries to feature were Poland, Switzerland, Austria and hosts France.

Ireland open their Euro 2016 adventure against Sweden in Stade de France, Saint-Denis on June 13 and that game happens to be one of the three most requested games in terms of ticket applications according to Uefa – the other two being Germany v Poland on June 16 and Portugal v Austria on June 18.

Martin O’Neill’s men also face Belgium at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux, Bordeaux on June 18 and round out Group E against Italy in Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on June 22.

A portal for the general public to apply for individual matches remains open until February 1 and you can start the process of doing so by clicking here.
