Mauro Icardi and Ever Banega scored hat-tricks as Inter Milan stunned fellow high-fliers Atalanta 7-1 in Serie A to maintain their hopes of Champions League qualification.

Icardi's hat-trick came inside the opening 26 minutes as the striker notched his first after 17 minutes, converted from the penalty spot six minutes later and struck his third soon after.

Banega took up the goalscoring initiative, netting twice in quick succession as rampant Inter found themselves 5-0 up with 11 minutes of the first half still to go.

The Nerazzurri had to wait until the 52nd minute for a sixth, with Roberto Gagliardini netting, before Banega claimed his third after 68 minutes.

Remo Freuler had scored three minutes from the end of the second half for Atalanta, who are now sixth after being leapfrogged by Inter. Atlanta had lost just one of their previous 11 Serie A matches coming into the game, winning seven.

Lorenzo Insigne scored twice as Napoli beat second-bottom Crotone 3-0, with the aid of two penalties.

Insigne's spot-kick gave Napoli a half-time lead, Dries Mertens added a second penalty and Insigne struck a third.

Napoli are 10 points behind leaders Juventus, who beat AC Milan 2-1 on Friday.

Nikola Kalinic scored in the second minute of stoppage time as Fiorentina beat Cagliari 1-0.

Udinese won 3-1 at rock-bottom Pescara. Duvan Zapata gave the visitors a half-time lead and Jakub Jankto and Cyril Thereau netted within 10 minutes of the restart, rendering Sulley Muntari's strike seven minutes from time mere consolation.

Chievo Verona beat Empoli 4-0, with Roberto Inglese, Sergio Pellissier, Valter Birsa and Bostjan Cesar on target.

Bologna won 1-0 at Sassuolo thanks to a second-half goal from Mattia Destro.
