Ibrahimovic is to join Manchester United

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is to join Manchester United, the Swedish striker has announced on Instagram.

The 34-year-old former Sweden international is a free agent after leaving Paris St Germain at the end of last season.

United are yet to comment but the move, which will reunite Ibrahimovic with his former Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho, has been widely anticipated.

The former Sweden international is expected to sign a short-term contract and will become United's second signing of the summer after the £30million capture of Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly from Villarreal.

Ibrahimovic, who has also played for Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Barcelona and AC Milan, boasts fine pedigree.

He scored 38 goals last season as PSG won Ligue 1 - his fourth successive French league success. In all he has won 11 titles in four countries, with two others taken off him when Juventus were stripped of the 2005 and 2006 Serie A crowns.

One of his four remaining Serie A wins came under new United boss Mourinho at Inter in 2009. The pair will now be together again after Mourinho, who is set to be formally unveiled next week, was appointed as Louis van Gaal's successor at United in May.

Ibrahimovic also scored 62 goals in 116 appearances for Sweden before retiring from international football following their elimination from Euro 2016 last week. It was suggested he could continue to play in the Olympics later this summer but he declined that opportunity, clearing the way for him to join United.

He seems unlikely to be the last addition at United this summer with the club having been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
