Henderson: Bring on United!

Jordan Henderson has set his sights on Manchester United after Liverpool edged out Swansea 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night.

Henderson was credited with the only goal after Jordi Amat’s attempted clearance ballooned off him and into the net, and the result moves Liverpool to within two points of United before the two sides meet at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool are in fine form after a slow start to the season, unbeaten in 13 league games, and Henderson is keen to build on that momentum.

“We can’t wait,” he said on Sky Sports 1 of the United game. “We’re high on confidence, we’ve got great momentum. United played well the other day and it will be a tough one but at Anfield we’ll go into the game full of confidence and will hopefully get the result we need.”

Liverpool were second best in the first half, with Joe Allen admitting they were ’lucky’ to reach half-time still level, but changed their shape after the break to take control.

“On the run we’ve been on our performances have been good for 90 minutes so it was a bit of a shock to the system,” Allen said of the opening 45 minutes. “Thankfully we got in level, maybe it was a bit lucky, but we came back out with a better attitude and worked even harder.”

Brendan Rodgers shifted to a midfield diamond in the second half to match up against Swansea, and Henderson believes that changed the game.

“We were struggling in the first half to match them in terms of intensity and pressing the ball,” he said. “In the second half we changed it to press better, press higher, and it was a big factor in the game.”
