Goian on verge of Rangers switch

Dorin Goian hopes to finalise the details of his move to Rangers today.

Dorin Goian hopes to finalise the details of his move to Rangers today.

The Ibrox club have reportedly agreed a fee of around £750,000 with Italian club Palermo for the 30-year-old defender.

Goian, who has 37 caps for Romania, is looking to seal the deal ahead of this evening’s Champions League deadline although the requirement of a work permit means he has little chance of making his debut in the first-leg of the Light Blues‘ Champions League qualifier against Malmo at Ibrox tomorrow night.

“There are some little problems at this exact moment but I am hopeful they can be resolved and I am going to sign,” Goian told the Daily Record.

“I am excited about the prospect of being in Glasgow.

“Rangers are a very big team in Europe and they are a club who are always playing in the Champions League and challenging for the championship.

“If I am going to complete the signing I would be very honoured to do so.

“All of the things are exciting for me but I just don’t want to speak too much about things because I haven’t actually signed a contract yet.

“I hope that everything is going to be okay.”

Different regulations apply to Romanian and Bulgarian nationals who desire to live and work in the UK, compared to other EU countries.

A spokesman for the Scottish Football Association told Press Association Sport: “He would require a work permit. There has been no contact from Rangers.”
