FAI secure very small number of additional tickets

If you are fortunate enough to have a ticket for Ireland’s last 16 game against France on Sunday mind it carefully - they are like gold dust.

The FAI have announced ticketing details for the game at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, and it is bad news for fans hoping to attend.

3,500 tickets have been allocated to Ireland supporters through UEFA's ticketing portal, which went on sale earlier this year.

The FAI's internal sales quota from UEFA is 1,000 tickets and FAI CEO John Delaney secured an additional 104 tickets.

The majority of tickets for Sunday's match in Lyon were initially sold to French supporters during the general sales phase at the beginning of the year.

At 1pm this afternoon the UEFA Ticketing Portal opened to Irish supporters for a limited number of tickets, but there are currently no tickets available there.

The FAI has said it will continue to communicate with UEFA in an attempt to free up extra tickets.

They went on to thank supporters for their incredible backing for the team in Paris, Bordeaux and Lille and to commend them on their magnificent behaviour throughout the tournament.

Delaney said: "I would like to thank all of our supporters for their tremendous support and I am as proud of the supporters as I am of the team. They have made their country proud and have been the greatest ambassadors.

"We will be doing everything we can to get as many Irish supporters into Sunday's game against France in Lyon."
