Eamon Dunphy: ‘Liverpool have a great chance’ of winning the League

Pundit Eamon Dunphy has delivered the most eye-catching prediction of the Premier League season so far - backing Liverpool for the title.

The reliably controversial commentator delivered his assessment of the season last night, on 2FM sports show Game On.

“I think Liverpool have a great chance," he told presenter Damian O’Meara, although he did add a number of provisos.

“If they get two players in the transfer window, if he (manager Jurgen Klopp) gets a couple of the lads who are injured back into the side and Sturridge gets fit."

Dunphy’s are currently sixth in the Premier League table and Dunphy delivered a ruthless appraisal of the teams above them.

“Liverpool are six points behind and if I look at the five teams ahead of them. Leicester; no chance, Arsenal; zero chance, Tottenham; no chance,” he said. “That leaves the two Manchester clubs.”

Dunphy appears to share Liverpool fans’ love of their new boss, saying Klopp “has got something going”.

“Someone will go on a run, and I think Liverpool have every chance,” he insisted, pointing at their relatively easy run of fixtures coming up.

“They’ve had all the big teams away from home; they have them all to come to Anfield.

“This guy has got something going. Six points is nothing.

“They’re certainties for the Champions League spot and I think they might win the league.”
