Diego Forlan: I rejected moves to English clubs this summer

Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan has revealed he rejected a number of offers to return to English football this summer and stated the only club he would play for is Manchester United, write Gavin Spillane.

"I had offers to play in England this summer and last. The only team I will play for in England is Manchester United,’ Forlan wrote in his column for Abu-Dhabi based newspaper The National.

Despite a notable drought of goals in his two years at Old Trafford, Forlan became a fan favourite for his work rate and tenacity on the pitch.

Since leaving in 2004, the now 37-year old has played for Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

Forlan- winner of the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa-now turns out for Mumbai City in the Indian Super League.

“If Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford all were out of the picture, I would be happy to go on an emergency loan and help out United.”

Maybe play at Liverpool away, score a goal or two and then make way when the injured come back.” the striker joked.

I had offers from Spain and Italy, too. But I feel that I have done my time in both countries, sampled the life there and enjoyed myself. Now I am ready for something new."
