Diamond-encrusted Rooney motorbike 'could fetch £60K'

A diamond-encrusted motorbike designed by Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney could fetch £60,000 when it is auctioned later today.

The 2012 Lauge Jensen cruiser-style machine has a special shift rod bearing 21 black diamonds and a white diamond.

An autographed No 10 football shirt which has been lacquer-sealed on to the petrol tank is another personal touch added by the striker, auction house Bonhams said.

It also comes complete with a painting of Rooney’s celebrations after he scored the overhead kick that helped Manchester United clinch the 2011 Premier League title on the rear mudguard.

A £40,000 to £60,000 estimate has been put on the bike when it goes for sale at the Bonhams sports memorabilia auction in Chester.

Money raised will go to KidsAid, a Danish children’s charity which helps sick youngsters.

Rooney said he had been “really excited” to be involved in the unique design alongside Danish motorcycle manufacturer Lauge Jensen.

He said the bike was inspired from the celebration of his overhead kick against Manchester City in the 2011 season.

Rooney said: “The goal has been described by others as being of the highest quality and technical excellence, powerful and beautiful. I hope you will agree that the bike is all of this and more.”
