Cork City have one prominent injury doubt for Genk tie

The one lingering injury doubt for John Caulfield ahead of Cork City’s Europa League third round qualifier with Racing Club Genk here tomorrow night is midfielder Greg Bolger (ankle) and he faces another late fitness check before kick-off at Genk’s 25,000 capacity Luminus Arena, writes Noel Spillane.

The former St Pat’s and Dundalk star and the SWAI Player of the Month of June played through the pain barrier with an ankle injury in the games against Belfast’s Linfield and BK Hacken of Gothenburg and he certainly does not want to miss out on tomorrow night’s big game.

John Caulfield is hoping to name an unchanged team.

“Greg is a huge influence on the team and he’s a natural leader and a good talker on the field. He’s our captain and he has taken to that task like a fish to water. We could do with him for this one and I know he wants to play tomorrow night,” said Caulfield after the team’s arrival at Liege airport – a 45 minute road trip from the team’s base at the Radisson Blu hotel in Hasselt.

Armed security officers greeted the squad in the confines of the small provincial airport as the City players passed through passport control and through the Arrivals hall.

“It’s important that we try and keep the tie alive here and bring something back to Cork but we are up against Champions’ League opposition here,” added Caulfield.

Genk’s Spanish star Alejandro Pozulo has been passed fit to play against Cork tomorrow evening with a 7pm kick-off (Irish time).
