Beckham steals show on deadline day

David Beckham will play for Paris St Germain for free after vowing to donate his entire salary from his new club to charity.

The generous gesture by the 37-year-old, who signed a five-month deal with the Ligue 1 leaders yesterday after turning down offers from England, could see a Paris children’s charity receive up to £3million.

“We decided on something quite unique,” said Beckham, who joined PSG as a free agent after leaving Major League Soccer side the Los Angeles Galaxy in December.

“In this time I won’t receive any salary. My salary will go to a local children’s charity in Paris.

“That’s one of the things we are very excited about and proud to do and something I’m not sure has been done before.”

In the Barclays Premier League, QPR appear to be the busiest club, with boss Harry Redknapp securing the services of defender Christopher Samba from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala for a record fee.

Samba, the former Blackburn centre-back, moved from Anzhi after QPR yesterday triggered his release clause, believed to be more than £10million.

Tottenham duo Jermaine Jenas and Andros Townsend remain targets for Redknapp, but confusion surrounds West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie tonight as he arrived in London for talks with QPR, only for his club to deny granting him permission.

A QPR spokesman also confirmed to Press Association Sport that Odemwingie was denied access at Loftus Road out of respect to West Brom.

Rs manager Redknapp earlier spoke of his interest in the wantaway Nigerian, and, when the player was interviewed in London speaking of his excitement about a move, it looked as though a deal was on.

But West Brom reacted quickly by releasing a statement which read: “The club can confirm they have held further discussions with QPR today but those talks have so far proven fruitless and no agreement has been reached.

“Albion would also like to make clear that Peter has not been given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move.”

Leaving QPR is midfielder Alejandro Faurlin, who has joined Italian side Palermo on loan.

Meanwhile, Norwich have signed striker Luciano Becchio from Leeds, with Steve Morison going the other way in part-exchange.

Sunderland also swooped for a new striker and have completed the signing of Danny Graham from Swansea for £5million.

The Gateshead-born frontman has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light, just days after he was booed by some of the Black Cats fans when he appeared against them for the Swans.

As a result, Louis Saha has left the Wearside club by mutual consent.

Wigan have confirmed the signing of Paul Scharner on loan from Hamburg for the rest of the season.

Scharner is returning to the DW Stadium having spent more than four years with the Latics before leaving for West Brom in the summer 2010.

AC Milan’s utility player Urby Emanuelson has joined Fulham on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The 26-year-old, a left-sided full-back or midfielder, has 16 caps for Holland and played for Cottagers boss Martin Jol during his time at Ajax.

Fulham have also acquired defender Stanislav Manolev on loan until end of the season from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

The deal for the 29-year-old right-back comes with an option of two further years if he impresses Jol.

Stoke this evening splashed out £2.5million on United States winger Brek Shea from FC Dallas. Shea has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at the Britannia Stadium after the club made a successful appeal for a work permit earlier today.

Aston Villa have also been active, sealing the signing of French midfielder Yacouba Sylla from Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot.

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has joined German side Hoffenheim on loan until the end of the season after passing a medical today.

Spurs also confirmed that 19-year-old midfielder Alex Pritchard has joined the Championship’s bottom club Peterborough on loan until the end of the season while Ryan Mason has left for Lorient, also on loan, until May.

Earlier, Manchester City also confirmed Mario Balotelli had completed his move to AC Milan.

Milan said Balotelli has signed a four-and-a-half year contract – the fee is understood to be £19million, rising to £22million.

Elsewhere, Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni is returning to his native Brazil to join Botafogo on a free transfer while Newcastle have completed the signing of Swiss teenager Kevin Mbabu from Servette for an undisclosed fee.
