Andros Townsend's emotional tweet proves footballers have feelings too
So farewell, Andros Townsend.
The England winger is finally on his way from Tottenham, where he’s spent his entire career (give or take roughly 700 loan spells) after the club agreed a reported fee of about £12 million with Newcastle for his transfer.
And the moment is clearly getting to 24-year-old Townsend.
And it wasn’t just Townsend, without a game for the Tottenham first-team since October, who’s feeling the emotion of the moment.
Tottenham fans are sad to see him go. They were lining up to wish him luck in the north east.

Newcastle fans were delighted with their new signing. Townsend will follow Jonjo Shelvey through the door at St James’ Park.
Shelvey&Townsend good to see #NUFC are trying to stay in the league— Con (@AVCon_) January 26, 2016
Not sure what happened to Townsend at Spurs but I liked him a couple of years back. Welcome to the toon fella #nufc— A Geordie Abroad (@burton_paul) January 26, 2016
The experts seem to think Newcastle are doing decent business in this window.
Anyone else feel that, by standards of inflated market (esp for Eng players), £12m apiece on Shelvey and Townsend looks sensible from #NUFC?— Oliver Kay (@OliverKayTimes) January 26, 2016
Plus there’s this to take into account.
So, it looks like a good investment all round.
