Aguero returns to Manchester City bench just two weeks after car crash

Sergio Aguero was poised to return for Manchester City just over a fortnight after breaking a rib in a car accident.

The Argentina striker was named among the substitutes as the Premier League leaders hosted Stoke at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has made a speedy recovery from injuries sustained when a taxi in which he was travelling, while enjoying a day off in Amsterdam, crashed into a post.

Aguero's return to fitness meant he missed just one City match, the victory at Chelsea on September 30. An initial prognosis suggested he could be out for up to four weeks, while his national team doctor was quoted saying he would be sidelined for six weeks.

Aguero went into the game just one short of equalling Eric Brook's City goalscoring record of 177, which had stood since 1939.
