Adam Johnson's sister says 'prison fight' claims laughable

Disgraced former England footballer Adam Johnson has not been involved in a fight in prison, his sister has claimed.

The sacked Sunderland winger was jailed in March after he was convicted of sexual activity with a 15-year-old following a trial at Bradford Crown Court.

He had already admitted grooming the girl and a separate, less serious charge of sexual activity with her.

Johnson has lodged appeals against his conviction and sentence.

The Daily Star Sunday reported the 28-year-old had been attacked by another inmate at Moorland prison, near Doncaster, in an argument about cleaning the shower.

But on the Adam Johnson's Appeal Fight page on Facebook, run by his sister Faye, a post said: "These newspapers are laughable. Why is there rarely any truth in their stories? Were the false stories about harm not so sickening we would find it funny.

"I've just spoke to Adam he is fine and I also want to add that never has he asked for special treatment and never will he. He has the right to appeal and he has! In the meantime, he's an ordinary prisoner like the rest.

"You will all hear the truth when Adam comes home."

The appeal page has been "liked" by more than 8,000 people.

A spokesman for the Prisons Service said: "We do not comment on individual prisoners."

Johnson was reportedly moved to Moorland from Armley Prison in West Yorkshire last month.
