Danny Higginbotham told a vintage Roy Keane anecdote yesterday while on BT Sport as part of the commentary team for QPR v Stoke.
Higginbotham played under the Corkman at Sunderland and described Keane’s lack of patience with a side who were just scraping clear of relegation where Keane expected them to be in the top half of the table.
Snapshots of Keane’s idea of man-management included:
“You! you’re the reason why I’m driving 100 miles every weekend to try and find a better player!”
“You’re a centre-forward and you can’t find the back of the net.”
Higginbotham finished quoting Roy with a line so perfectly withering that even reading it you can hear the Cork accent and tone of contempt.
“I’m ordering 30 umbro hoodies because when you do your lap of honour next week, you’re going to have your hoods up because you should be ashamed, you shouldn’t let the fans see you.”
Never change Roy.
