Short run-out means Johnston eligible for Kildare

One of the most bizarre moments in the history of the GAA took place today during a Kildare Senior Hurling Championship match in Clane this afternoon.
Seanie Johnston started for the Coill Dubh hurlers against Eire Og Corrachoill and played for approximately a minute before being substituted to audible jeers from the crowd.
The short run-out is enough to make Johnston eligible to play for his adopted county Kildare in tomorrow's Leinster SFC semi-final against Meath at Croke Park.
Under new GAA rules, Johnston was required to play in the county's club Championship before he could be considered for inter-county action by Kildare boss Kieran McGeeney.
The ex-Cavan forward's controversial transfer to St. Kevin's in Kildare was finally granted earlier this month.
As Coill Dubh are a sister club of St. Kevin's, Johnston's brief appearance with the hurley today will mean he can play for the Lilywhites tomorrow.
Johnston failed to get a touch of the sliothar during the club encounter, although at one stage there were ironic shouts of, 'let it in to Seanie!', as Coill Dubh built an early attack.
