Jason Byrne hit a brace, his eighth and ninth of the league season, to send Shelbourne to the top of the table as Saints slumped to their biggest defeat of the season tonight.

Saints’ keeper Barry Ryan had made a couple of good stops before Byrne lobbed him for the opener of 32 minutes.

Glen Crowe then set up Byrne for his second in first-half stoppage time.

Shels added a third goal 12 minutes from time when Crowe headed home Ollie Cahill’s cross as they won with something to spare to give themselves the perfect send off to Denmark for their Intertoto Cup clash with Odense on Sunday.
