Shearer testimonial sold out
28/03/2006 - 11:01:35Newcastle captain Alan Shearer’s testimonial game has sold out.
The 35-year-old will say his farewell to fans in front of a packed house at St James’ Park on Thursday, May 11 with the proceeds – expected to top £1m (€1.46m) - going to charity.
Long queues formed on Friday morning as the last remaining tickets went on general sale for a game which will see a Newcastle XI take on Celtic.
Shearer’s 202 goals in 400 appearances for the club make him their record scorer and, although he will end his career on Tyneside without a trophy, the night promises to be a major celebration.
