Tommy Stewart scored twice against his former club as Shamrock Rovers rubber-stamped their passage through to the semi-final of the Setanta Sports Cup with a 3-1 win over Linfield at Windsor Park, comfortably winning the tie 7-2 on aggregate.

Also, as expected, Sligo Rovers eased through as they won 3-0 at Glentoran to win their quarter-final 8-0 over the two legs.

Shamrock Rovers, 4-1 up from the first leg in Dublin, fell behind to a 26th minute David Armstrong header. But a mistake by defender Niall Quinn six minutes later gifted the ball to Stewart who drilled home the equaliser on the night.

Stewart added his second on 69 minutes when heading home the rebound after the ball came back off the Linfield crossbar following a corner. Winger Billy Dennehy got Rovers’ third goal ten minutes from time.

A terrific 30-yard strike from midfielder Lee Lynch gave Sligo a seventh minute lead on the night at Glentoran to put them 6-0 up in the tie.

Raff Cretaro added Sligo’s second goal on the night, racing clear of the Glentoran defence to shoot past keeper Aaron Hogg. Substitute Liam Martin got the third goal on 85 minutes, cutting in from the right to rifle his shot to the net.

Drogheda United join both Rovers and Cork City in the last four after a stoppage time winner saw them come from behind to beat ten man Derry City 2-1 at Hunky Dorys Park for a 3-2 aggregate win.

Despite having had defender Ryan McBride sent off early in the second half, Derry went ahead on the night in the 64th minute when Michael Rafter punished a defensive error by Philip Hand to shoot past Gabriel Sava.

Drogheda hit back within four minutes as defender Derek Prendergast crashed the ball home from close range after Gavin Brennan knocked down Hand’s free kick.

The home side then won it four minutes into added time at the death, Ryan Brennan arriving at the back post to score.

In the semi-final draw made after last night’s games, Shamrock Rovers will play Cork City and Drogheda United meet Sligo Rovers. Legs to be played on the 16th and 22nd of April.

In EA Sports Cup first round action, Bohemians came from two goals down to win 3-2 in extra-time and book their passage through to the second round after a cracking tie with UCD at Dalymount Park.

Dinny Corcoran scored twice against his former club to appear to put UCD through. But Bohs hit back through Dave Scully and Karl Moore's dramatic late free kick to force the extra-time in which Chris Lyons won it, scoring from the rebound after his penalty was parried by UCD keeper Mark McGinley.

A solitary Kurtis Byrne goal gave Dundalk victory over Shelbourne at Oriel Park while Longford Town won 2-0 away to Athlone Town thanks to goals from Garvan Broughall and Josh O'Hanlon.

The game between Waterford United and Cobh Ramblers at the RSC was postponed due to bad weather.
