Sean McComb advances but Adam Nolan bows out after split decision

It was a mixed bag for the Irish boxing squad today at the World Championships in Qatar, with one of the two boxers in action progressing.

Belfast's Sean McComb marched into the last-16 of the lightweight division after a points win over Lindolfo Delgado Garca of Mexico.

The 23-year-old appeared to dominate the fight, but the judges surprisingly scored the second round to his opponent, before McComb secured the win - 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

However Adam Nolan's Championships are already over.

The Bray-based welterweight lost out this evening on a split decision (30-27, 28-28, 29-28) after he was drawn against European champion Eimantas Stanionis of Lithuania

Nolan ultimately paid the price for a slow start to the fight as his opponent was able to stay on-top on the score cards throughout the rest of the fight.
