Scottish police arrest man in connection with racist tweet claims

Maurice Edu of Rangers.

Police have made an arrest following allegations of racist tweets directed at two Rangers players.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested by Strathclyde Police and is being detained in custody.

The arrest follows complaints that defender Kyle Bartley and midfielder Maurice Edu had been abused on social networking site Twitter.

Bartley, on loan at the Scottish champions from Arsenal, wrote on his page: “Disappointing that in 2012 things like this are still happening. Hopefully the police will take action. Thank you all for the support.”

Edu tweeted: “Sad day when that’s what people are tweeting.”
