Two new injury concerns for Ireland

Ireland coach Declan Kidney has two main injury concerns after Sunday's disappointing loss to Scotland.

Wing Craig Gilroy came off during the game with a sore groin and underwent an MRI scan today to ascertain the extent of the injury.

The scan did not reveal any significant damage and he will recover from the injury throughout this week.

Second row Donnacha Ryan received a bruised shoulder during the game and an MRI scan did not reveal any major structural damage.

He will also undergo rehab treatment over the next week.

Outside of the longer-term injuries to Simon Zebo, Richardt Strauss, Stephen Ferris, Tommy Bowe and Paul O’Connell, there are other medium-term injuries within the squad is as follows.

Jonathan Sexton is continuing his rehabilitation on his hamstring injury and has progressed well to the extent that he is expected to run this week as part of his recovery programme.

Chris Henry underwent surgery on a meniscal tear in his knee last week. The surgery went well and he has an estimated return to play of four weeks, so he is not in consideration for the remaining games of the championship.

Gordon D’Arcy will be in a boot for another 10 days to rest the stress injury in his foot, at which point he will be rescanned to check on his progress.

Mike McCarthy’s medial knee ligament injury has progressed well to the point that he is also running and he will be retested at the end of the week to assess his availability for the France game.
