The divisional divide proved too much for Greystones as they lost to a buoyant St Mary's College in today's AIB Cup First Round tie.

A brace of tries from former Wanderers back row Henric Gervais helped Division One outfit Mary's to a five-try success at rain-hit Templeville Road. Greystones, who sit mid-table in Division Two, were badly off the pace.

Hooker Daragh Fanning and brothers John and David Kilbride also crossed the Wicklow men's line.

An early penalty and drop goal from fly-half Barry Lynn, who kicked four conversions, set Mary's on their way to a 27-0 half-time lead.

Winger Ronan O'Carroll got in for two consolation tries for 'Stones, who were without the services of captain John O'Beirne, in the final quarter. Number 10 Dan van Zyl converted both.

The draw for the Second Round of the AIB Cup takes place on Thursday, January 12.
