As Leinster get set for a mammoth test this weekend, coach Matt O’Connor says that talk on his future has not filtered into his side.
A certain section of supporters have made it clear on social media platforms that they want to see a change at the top of the coaching hierarchy.
It has been an inconsistent season for them, their race to stay in the hunt for the Guinness Pro 12 title is all but over, following their loss to the Dragons last weekend where they threw away a 14-point lead.
The squad train at their base in UCD today, ahead of their huge European Champions Cup semi-final against Champions Toulon in France.
He said: “To be away in a semi-final against a side as good as Toulon is a huge challenge, it’s a massive game for the team and the organisation.
“We have prepared really well, we’ll go down there and give it everything we got and see where we are at the end of the eighty minutes.”
The Leinster coach says he takes no heed of talk from the outside but admits he faces the biggest game of his tenure.
He said: “We take no notice of it, we spend all of our time creating an environment where there are no obstacles or excuses.
“We work very hard, staff and players, to make sure that we work as hard as we can to deliver a performance.”
When asked directly at his press conference today whether he feared for his job, the Leinster coach said: “It’s irrelevant, the noise outside the environment makes no difference to what happens inside it.”
Leinster captain Jamie Heaslip has backed the coach, saying: “People have called for my contract to be ripped up in the past so I take no notice of it.
“Matt’s got the full support of the squad, we have done some great things over the last two seasons, as players we have been disappointed by how we have played in some games but outside that, I’m not listening.”
