Munster’s Denis Hurley confirms departure: 'A new challenge awaits'

Munster back Denis Hurley has confirmed that he's played his last game for the province.

The 31-year-old announced the news on Instagram alongside a picture of himself carrying his baby daughter out onto the pitch at Thomond Park.

“One last walk out,” he wrote. “My wife nabbed this pic after the end of season game on Saturday.

“All the memories this pitch has given us over the years and it culminated in a quiet moment for us to savour as a family.

“Happy to have played out my dreams here but now a new challenge awaits and we're excited about what may lie ahead.

“Thanks for all the support over the years.”

Hurley is a product of the Munster Academy and made his first competitive start for Munster against Llanelli Scarlets in Stradey Park in May 2006. He went on to make 166 appearances for the province.

His father Gerry was a member of the Munster squad that defeated the All Blacks in 1978.
