Munster transfer rumour: Could Simon Zebo be heading to France?

Between injuries, moves and retirements Munster fans have dealt with a lot of bad news in recent months - so this transfer rumour is the last thing they need to hear.

Paris-based sports journalist and writer Gavin Mortimer has suggested that Simon Zebo may be following captain Paul O’Connell to France.

Mortimer revealed this afternoon on Twitter that a reliable source has told him Zebo ‘could be on his way to Toulouse’.

Zebo suggested in an interview earlier this year that he would be open to a transfer and the player is a fluent French speaker as a result of spending summers there with his family.

With Peter O’Mahony out with knee ligament damage sustained in the Rugby World Cup and Felix Jones forced into premature retirement due to injury - Munster fans are understandably worried at the thought of losing another high-profile player.

After their victory against Ulster in the PRO12, Zebo went online to say how happy he was to be back playing with his province.

He posted pictures from the match on Instagram and captioned them: “Great to be back out in Thomond with the brothers and playing in front of that special crowd. #SUAF”.

Jones’ absence should give Zebo the opportunity to cement a place in his preferred full-back position; Munster fans will hope that helps keep him happy to stay with the Red men.
