Scrum-half Peter Stringer won’t rule out a move to Leinster at some point in the future, but for now his focus is on beating them in the Champions Cup quarter-final this weekend.
Stringer has been with Bath since 2013 and travels with them to the Aviva Stadium on Saturday to take on the Blues, in what he knows will be a challenging game.
It’s going to be difficult,” he said today in the Irish Sun. “We know Leinster’s achievements in Europe and what a great place the Aviva Stadium is to play in. But we’re excited about it and can’t wait to get it on.”
Stringer, who famously scored Munster’s second try when they beat Biarritz in the ‘06 Heineken Cup final, admitted he has heard the rumours linking him to the eastern province.
“The first I heard of it was when it blew up on Twitter and in the media,” he said. “I can’t remember which journalist asked Matt about me and the response was that would look at me and other scrum-halves.
Stringer, now 37, wouldn’t rule out a move to the current PRO12 champions.
“I’m not going to rule out any team. I want to make the most of the last few years.”
Stringer told Bathrugby.com he had been waiting for another opportunity to play in the Aviva Stadium.
“I always had the dream and the ambition to play there again for Ireland, as I have had many great days in the old and new stadium,” he said.
“I have been waiting for a fixture like this since I joined (Bath) just over two years ago. Now that it's here, I cannot wait.”
He also described his greatest moment in the old Lansdowne Road - against the same opposition in 2006.
“The 2006 Heineken Cup semi-final against Leinster in Lansdowne Road stands out,” he said. “We won 30-6. Playing against Leinster, you're always prepared for a tough and physical match.”
