Medard ruled out of Irish game

French fullback Maxime Medard will miss the RBS 6 Nations match against Ireland at the Stade de France on Sunday due to a knee injury he sustained in the 23-17 win over Scotland yesterday.

Medard, who breezed over for the winning try on the hour mark in Murrayfield on Sunday, will be replaced by Toulouse team-mate Clement Poitrenaud.

“We don't have a lot of fullbacks in the squad,” French coach Philippe Saint-Andre revealed at his squad announcement this morning.

“We chose Clement Poitrenaud even though we had one or two other options."

The rest of the French squad came through Sunday’s victory unscathed and remain available for selection for the showdown against Declan Kidney’s men which was postponed on Februray 11 due to freezing conditions in Paris.

Saint-Andre and Kidney will announce their starting line-ups on Wednesday.
