Harry Redknapp backs Ireland for World Cup from his car window

By Larry Ryan

’Arry has a sneaking fancy for Ireland as a value World Cup punt.

It must get old for Harry, being asked to conduct so much of his promotional/punditry work from behind the wheel of his car.

But then it is unique niche he has carved for himself and a quid’s a quid.

So naturally his new foray in to Rugby World Cup punditry sees Harry in the driving seat again.

And he has some kind words for Ireland’s chances of winning the whole thing.

"If I was having a bet, 9/1 or 10/1 Ireland.. Ireland won’t be far away. They’re the best of the others. I think they’ll be strong. They tell me the coach is fantastic. Good players. They’ve got a chance."

Mind you, Harry wouldn’t be Harry without hedging his bets a touch

"I think New Zealand are going to win it. They look the strongest team."

"Australia are a strong outfit and they’ve got every chance, along with South Africa."

And his verdict on England?

"I was choked. Even at half-time I thought we can come back here. It was disapoointing.

"It looked like he’d (Stuart Lancaster) done a great job. But when it comes to tournaments, it’a s bit like the football team.. very very poor.

"No lack of effort, but we didn’t play well on the night and Australia were too good for us."
