Dan Tuohy
28/01/2011 - 13:42:19Born in Gloucester, the Irish qualified lock was plying his trade with the Exeter Chiefs in the English first division when Coach Brian McLaughlin convinced him to make the move across the water and has made quite an impression.
Just ask Marcelo Bosch what he thinks of Touhy? The teak tough lock steamrolled over the Argentinean centre during Ulster’s nailbiting 9-6 Heineken Cup victory over Biarritz, with the Puma left prostrate on the ground after the collision. It was a big statement from the adopted Ulsterman.
Touhy made gave a great account of himself during Ireland’s ill-fated summer tour. With Ireland being battered by a rampant All Blacks in New Plymouth, Tuohy was called from the bench and scored a try with his first touch, blasting through a gap in a ruck to temporality lift the siege on an otherwise difficult night.
The Hartpury College graduate missed the early part of the season through injury, but has beaten off competition from Tim Barker and Ryan Caldwell to form an effective second row partnership with Springbok Johann Muller.
An immensely talented lock, Tuohy could become an integral part of Declan Kidney’s plans.
