Connacht’s injuries mount after Ulster defeat

The Connacht squad trained in Galway this afternoon ahead of Saturday’s opening Heineken Cup clash with Zebre in Italy (2.45pm) with the medical team reporting a number of injury concerns arising from Friday night’s 25-0 defeat at Ravenhill.

As well as requiring stitches to his chin, centre Dave McSharry injured his shoulder against Ulster and will continue to be assessed ahead of Friday’s lunchtime team announcement.

Prop Ronan Loughney and centre Mata Fifita are both suffering from minor heel injuries after last week’s game.

Meanwhile, Andrew Browne, Gavin Duffy, Matt Healy, Matthew Jarvis, Eoin McKeon, Dave Nolan, Paul O’Donohoe, Danie Poolman and Kyle Tonetti still feature on the injured list.

It is hoped that centre Brian Murphy will return to the panel in within the next two weeks.

Frank Murphy, who was in Dublin on Friday to undergo surgery on his knee, is now on the road to recovery but may not feature for the remainder of the season.
