Ireland rugby star Cian Healy has revealed that he feared for his health as well as his rugby future following a neck injury.
The loosehead prop missed the final eight weeks of last season after surgery for a neck injury but is now on the road to recovery, he told Ryan Tubridy on 2FM.
“I’m recovering from a neck injury and it’s going pretty well. It’s about building up the arm again because there was so little movement in it in training.
“If it’s a neck injury it could have left me paralyzed if I didn’t get if fixed, and that’s the way my head thinks.
“They assured me that it wasn’t a situation like that. I was happy to be told that I’d be able to play rugby again.”
The countdown to the Rugby World Cup has begun and Healy is back in the Irish camp for the upcoming warm up games.
Expectation levels are extremely high before the tournament, following back to back victories for Ireland in the Six Nations Championship.
Many pundits feel that this group of players have a strong chance of reaching a semi-final and the imput of Joe Schmidt is pivotal according to Healy.
“He’s obsessive with rugby, he loves it. It’s all he eats, drinks, talks about. He is the perfect man to have in the role. I’ve never came across a man who knows more about the sport.”
