Rovers looking to return to top of table

12/08/2011 - 14:02:48
Shamrock Rovers can return to the top of the table with victory over UCD at Tallaght Stadium tonight, kick-off 8.00pm.

Ken Oman remains out for the Hoops with a knee injury, while Stephen O’Donnell is also missing due to a hamstring problem.

Chris Turner remains suspended for the game, while there is also a doubt over Ronan Finn (groin).

Karl Sheppard returns to the squad after recovering from injury.

Rovers boss Michael O’Neill said: “We want to continue getting wins and gathering points in the league. Europe comes back around for us again, but we want to have ourselves in the position that if we win our game in hand, we’re three clear at the top. So we need to win on Friday to do that.

“We never expect an easy game from UCD. While we won well in the last game in Belfield, they did have a man sent off.

“They’ll come to Tallaght with nothing to lose, and we need to be aware of that going into the game.”

UCD will be looking to get back to winning ways to stay out of the relegation zone as Drogheda have moved to within two points of Martin Russell’s side.

Darren Meenan is suspended for the Students and will miss the trip to Tallaght, however Samir Belhout returns from suspension.

College boss Russell said: "We always look forward to the challenge that faces us when we visit Tallaght.

"Taking on Shamrock Rovers who have been on the top of the tree for the last while is going to be a big challenge for our lads but hopefully we can maintain our good form and get something out of the game.”
