Rose out of Wentworth event
The European Tour’s flagship BMW PGA Championship lost one of its top attractions today when Justin Rose had to pull out because of a back injury.
Rose, runner-up to Dane Anders Hansen after a play-off two years ago and European number one that season, had withdrawn from the eve-of-tournament pro-am in the hope that an extra day’s rest might enable him to start.
But although he had a late tee-off time of 12.55pm tomorrow he informed officials this afternoon that he was out.
His place at Wentworth has gone to Scot Richie Ramsay, winner of the US Amateur title in 2006 and now a Tour rookie.
