Robben returns to Chelsea bench

23/04/2005 - 12:37:46
Arjen Robben made his long-awaited return to the substitutes’ bench after injury as Chelsea marked the 50th anniversary of the club’s only title triumph so far ahead of their clash against Fulham.

It was on Saturday, April 23, 1955 that the Chelsea team captained by Roy Bentley beat Sheffield Wednesday to lift the trophy.

John Terry’s side cannot repeat the feat today after their midweek draw against Arsenal, although victory against Fulham would put them within touching distance, requiring just two more points.

While Robben was on the bench, Jose Mourinho made one change, with William Gallas rested ahead of next week’s Champions League tie against Liverpool and Robert Huth replacing him in defence.

Fulham, meanwhile, were still without Andy Cole (achilles) and Papa Bouba Diop (groin), so Chris Coleman kept an unchanged line-up from their midweek draw against Middlesbrough.
