Retirement stories 'wide of the mark'
Newspaper reports confirming the retirement of three inter-county hurlers - Waterford's Tony Browne and Kilkenny duo Michael Kavanagh and James Ryall - have been rubbished by official sources.
Browne, the long-serving Deise defender, said that he has yet to make a decision either way on whether he will commit to his 20th season of top level hurling.
The 37-year-old was part of the Waterford side that won the Munster title this year after a replay with Cork - he scored a goal in the drawn game. Davy Fitzgerald's men lost to eventual champions Tipperary in their recent All-Ireland semi-final clash.
Denying today's reports, Browne explained that he wants to leave it until December, at the earliest, to decide on his playing future.
Meanwhile, Kilkenny County Board Secretary Ned Quinn confirmed to local radio station, KCLR, that neither Kavanagh or Ryall are stepping down from the inter-county scene.
The defensive duo, who have 13 All-Ireland SHC medals between them, have categorically denied reports of their retirement.
The 29-year-old Ryall featured as a substitute in the Cats' recent All-Ireland semi-final win over Cork, while Kavanagh, 31, was last seen in Championship action against Tipperary in last year's All-Ireland final.
