Rain in Spain forces qualifying extension
08/11/2006 - 19:48:23Torrential rain in the south of Spain over the past week has forced officials at the European Tour qualifying school to declare the Old Course at San Roque unplayable for the first two rounds and to extend the event an extra two days.
The first two rounds will now be played solely over the New Course and run from tomorrow until Sunday. Then both courses will be used for the third and fourth rounds next Monday and Tuesday.
After a cut to the top 70 and ties the last two rounds will be staged next Wednesday and Thursday.
Which course will be used has yet to be decided.
Former Ryder Cup hero Philip Walton and 17-year-old Oliver Fisher, who last year became the youngest-ever Walker Cup cap, are among those taking part.
