Rain claims Ascot card

Wednesday’s meeting at Ascot has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the course Chris Stickels had planned to inspect at 4pm today ahead of the fixture, which was due to feature the Group Three Moss Bros Sagaro Stakes as well as two Listed heats.

However, after further rain overnight, Stickels has made an early call.

He said: “Since we announced the inspection, we have had a further 10 millimetres of rain and there was no need to wait until 4pm to inspect.

“The track is waterlogged in places and unraceable and it won’t improve in time for racing.

“We have had 123mm of rain in April with 110mm in the last two weeks which is unprecedented at this time of year.”
