Harrington's Jenari sustains fatal injury

Jessica Harrington believes Jenari will be “sorely missed” after the gelding was put down yesterday.

The six-year-old was a Grade Two winner over hurdles and had won one of his five starts over fences this term before sustaining a broken leg on Tuesday.

Harrington has paid tribute to the JP McManus-owned runner, who won a total of four of his 15 outings.

She told her website]: “It comes with great sadness that I have to report the death of the much-loved Jenari, who sadly had to be put down following breaking a leg on our gallops on Tuesday morning.

“Known for his huge heart, portrayed by his battling qualities on the track, he was a consistent performer who always gave his best.

“He had many highlights throughout his short career, including stand out efforts when winning on (his) chase debut at Naas and winning the Grade Two Coolmore Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse.

“I know for sure that he will be sorely missed around the yard, as he was very much part of our family.

“Sadly this is the nature of the sport we are involved in and I would like to thank all involved in helping throughout his career.”
