Punters back Owen's baby to play for England
A bookmaker is offering odds of 200/1 on footballer Michael Owen’s newborn son playing for England.
Betting firm Ladbrokes offered the price after being inundated with requests from punters that James, born on Monday, will follow in his father’s footsteps.
The bookmakers also offered odds of 50/1 on him playing for Liverpool FC and 100/1 on him taking to the pitch for either Newcastle United or Real Madrid - his father’s current and former teams.
David Williams, a spokesman for Ladbrokes, said: “We’ve seen it time and time again with the Cloughs, Redknapps and Lampards of this world.
“A footballing father is a massive leg-up to the big time and if young James slips into his father’s international boots, we’ll be facing a massive pay-out.
“We reckon Liverpool are best placed to give him a chance if he displays any early talent.”
It is not known whether keen gambler Owen has taken advantage of the odds.
