Police find 'suspect package' near Arsenal ground

Police found what they described as a “suspect package” in a car park close to the Emirates Stadium.

They cordoned off the ground for almost half an hour prior to today’s Barclays Premier League match between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Just after 2.30pm, Metropolitan Police officers prevented members of the public and press from approaching the ground and an officer used a loud speaker to inform spectators that police were looking into an incident.

However, at just before 3pm, police lifted the cordon and allowed access to the stadium.

An Arsenal spokesman had confirmed to Press Association Sport that “police checks” were being carried out.
