Pipe start on hold

02/05/2006 - 08:48:45
A date has yet to be finalised for David Pipe to officially start his training career.

He is due to take over from his record-breaking father, Martin, who announced he was retiring from training on Saturday, citing ill health as the reason.

Horseracing Regulatory Authority public relations manager Paul Struthers said: “He certainly won’t be picking his licence up in the next couple of days on the basis that there has been no application for a licence yet.

“The process is that he has to apply for a licence and then that application has to be considered by the licensing committee.

“The licensing committee meet as and when required but the committee can be set up fairly quickly.

“If any of their horses run in the meantime they’ll be running under Martin’s name.

“The ball is very much in their court at the moment.”
