Women's Mini Marathon to feature live video streaming

Participants and supporters being encouraged to become more involved as this year’s Evening Echo Women's Mini Marathon is set for a greater online presence than ever before.

Up to 10,000 runners are expected to gather for the Cork event this Sunday, which is set to feature live online updates, video and pictures.

The biggest event of its kind in Munster, the event provides many Cork causes with a vital source of revenue for the coming year.

“The Mini Marathon is a highlight of the calendar every year,” said Maurice Gubbins, editor of the Evening Echo.

“It has raised millions of euro for charities and good causes. Most of all, is a really fun event and everyone has a great time.

“This year we want to make it a major online event and will be active on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as well as streaming through Periscope - so make sure to check out the hashtag #EEMiniMarathon for live updates.”

As well as thousands of women, men can also take part – if they are in fancy dress.

The Evening Echo Women's Mini Marathon will begin on Centre Park Road on Sunday, finishing at John F Kennedy Park, at the junction of Victoria Road and Monahan Road.

The event itself will get underway at 1pm, with excitement expected to build from noon onwards.

The event is organised by the Cork County Board of Athletics Ireland with sponsorship from the Evening Echo, Keary’s MINI and Tipperary Water.
