Watch Dan Martin finish third at major one-day race

Ireland’s Dan Martin was third as Alejandro Valverde won La Fleche-Wallonne one-day race in Belgium for a record fourth time.

Spain's Valverde (Movistar) attacked on the steep slopes of the concluding Mur de Huy and Julian Alaphilippe and his Etixx-QuickStep team-mate Martin went with him.

But Valverde triumphed for a third successive time.

The women's race was won by Holland's Anna van der Breggen (RaboLiv).

The best-placed Briton was Dani King (Wiggle High5) in 25th. World champion Lizzie Armitstead (Boels-Dolmans) was 28th.
