VIDEO: Rosberg expects Hamilton backlash

Nico Rosberg is readying himself for a backlash from Lewis Hamilton after victory slipped out of his Mercedes team-mate’s grasp in Monaco.

A win was all but assured for the reigning Formula One world champion as the race came to a close, only for a miscalculation to cost him in the principality.

Hopes of a lights-to-flag victory for Hamilton were blown out the water after going to the pits under the safety car, only for Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel to pass.

It allowed Rosberg to secure a third successive win in Monte Carlo, cutting the lead at the top to 10 points and no doubt giving Hamilton extra motivation to get back to winning ways next time out in Canada.

“I have mixed feelings,” the German said in a video on his Twitter feed.

“Of course I am very, very happy because a win is a win and I’ve learned to take the way it comes in sport.

“It was massively lucky, massively lucky. I’ve probably never been that lucky before.

“At the same time, though, I have a lot of empathy for Lewis and all his side of the garage because they deserved it.

“They did a great job this weekend and deserved the win, but sport is really awful sometimes.

“It hit him this time but he’ll bounce back in Montreal I am sure.”
